Gonsoulin Land and Cattle

We are looking for a ‘Grow Louisiana’ participant to join the Gonsoulin Land and Cattle Team for a 1-2 week paid apprenticeship on-farm and on-going paid role selling Gonsoulin products at the Crescent City Farmer’s Market. The ideal candidate would have experience in animal handling or ranch work. Candidates must be pursuing a career in agriculture of some sort. 

On-Farm internship duties to include:

Daily Checking fence lines for power outage and weed control.

Daily checking water troughs

Daily checking cattle and moving to new pastures.

Tractor work including bush hogging, chopping, land leveling, weed control, and maintaining roads.

Putting out hay and minerals as needed

Vaccinating, deworming, and general health requirements of the herd.

Helping to move/load cattle.

Working with our social media team for videos/pictures that they can use for advertisement.

Entering production data into our herd health computer program.

Basic Mechanic and welding work as needed for equipment repairs.

Grow Louisiana is a cohort-based Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development program. Other candidates will be considered if there are no Grow Louisiana Participants who fit the role. Fat River Farms

Fat River Flowers is seeking a 5-10 hour-a-week paid apprentice for the fall planting season. This is a short-term position and will be supported by a stipend for new and beginning farmers at $15/hr as they learn the rhythms of a farm. We will prioritize applicants with prior participation in the ‘Growing Local’ Beginning Farmers Class series for this opportunity.  The position starts in mid-September and ends in November. The ideal applicant is looking to take steps towards learning to farm but requires paid employment to make meaningful moves towards a career in agriculture. Weekly hours are scheduled collaboratively with the farm.

Too Tall Farms


Too Tall Farm & Nursery is seeking a 5-10 hour-a-week paid apprentice for the fall season. This is a short-term position and will be supported by a stipend for new and beginning growers at $15/hr as they learn the rhythms of our operation. We will prioritize applicants with prior participation in the ‘Growing Local’ Beginning Farmers Class series for this opportunity.  The position starts in mid-September and ends in November. The ideal applicant is looking to take steps towards learning to grow plants commercially and run a nursery operation but requires paid employment to make meaningful moves towards a career in agriculture. Weekly hours are scheduled collaboratively with the growers, Maggie Kaiser and Jacob Ingalls.
